Mad Max Save Editor

Explore, repair and customize your run through the Wasteland: Max’s scrap and what he carries, the Magnum Opus’s and Max’s upgrades, the convoys of the roads, the scrap, water and food waiting out there, and the numbers the game keeps on you.

Offline single-player only. This editor is for your own single-player saves. It runs entirely in your browser: the file never leaves your computer.

What you can do

  • Scrap

Set how much scrap Max has for upgrades at Griffa, Chumbucket and the strongholds.

  • What Max carries

Set his shotgun shells, sniper rifle rounds, Thunderpoon charges, Thunderstick and shivs.

  • Upgrades

Buy the Magnum Opus’s levels and Max’s gear without spending scrap, choose what is fitted, raise Griffa’s abilities and learn every combat move.

  • Convoys

Set each of the 13 road convoys: bring it back after you have wrecked it, marked on the map or waiting to be found, or mark it wrecked.

  • Combat moves

Learn or forget each of Max’s 15 fighting moves.

  • Relics

Mark each history relic and hood ornament found or not, as far as the save has room.

  • Garage

Build or install any of the 16 Archangels, add cars to the vehicle collection and find the parts that open upgrades.

  • Pickups

Refill the scrap piles, water and food of the Wasteland that you have taken.

  • Statistics

Look at and set the numbers the game keeps: Griffa tokens, legend, challenges, Death Runs, enemies and vehicles defeated, distance and more.

  • Save details

See the slot, the hours played, when it was saved, the completion and the relics found.

Where are my saves?

Windows
Steam\userdata\<id>\234140\remote\
macOS
~/Library/Application Support/Steam/userdata/<id>/234140/remote/
Linux (Proton)
~/.steam/steam/userdata/<id>/234140/remote/

The game loads from Steam’s folder for Mad Max (234140) under your Steam user id. Each slot is a GameSaveNN.sav file; Settings.sav holds the options and isn’t a game save. Close the game before you copy or replace a file.

Steam Cloud keeps these files and may put back its own copy. Replace the file while Steam is closed, or turn Steam Cloud off for Mad Max first. If Steam then asks which files to keep, keep the ones on this computer.

Copy the .sav file somewhere safe before editing. The editor doesn’t keep backups.

Guides

Questions

Where does Mad Max keep its saves?

In Steam’s user data: Steam\userdata\<your id>\234140\remote on Windows, ~/Library/Application Support/Steam/userdata/<your id>/234140/remote on a Mac. The slots are GameSave01.sav to GameSave10.sav.

Is my save uploaded anywhere?

No. The file is read and written in your browser; nothing is sent to a server.

How do I put the edited save back?

Download it, then copy the downloaded file over the original, keeping its name, with the game and Steam closed. Steam Cloud may otherwise put back its own copy.

Which versions are supported?

Saves of the current Steam version of Mad Max (2015) on Windows, Mac and Linux; they are the same file on all three. The editor changes values in place and never changes the file’s length. Back up your save first: edits are at your own risk.

What happens to a convoy I bring back?

Each convoy you choose is put back as before its first fight. On the map, its route shows in red and it can be fought again; otherwise it is out on the roads, waiting to be found. Convoys are set one by one, or all at once.

Can I add relics?

Yes, on the Relics tab, as far as the save has room. The game pads each save to a fixed size and the file can’t grow, so a late save with a few relics missing has room for them, while a new game may take only a couple of dozen. Relics marked found count for the relic achievements when the save loads.
