Short on scrap: see how much Max has and set the amount

Checked against Mad Max (2015) Patch 4 · November 3, 2026

Scrap is what Mad Max runs on. Every level of the Magnum Opus, every piece of Max’s gear and every stronghold project costs it, and the supply never quite matches the shopping list. In your save, scrap is one number, and the editor reads it and can set a new one. It can also refill the scrap piles you have already emptied, so the Wasteland has more to give again.

What scrap pays for

  • The Magnum Opus: armor, engine, tires, harpoon and the rest are bought level by level from Chumbucket at the garage.
  • Max’s gear: knuckledusters, jacket, wrist guards, ammo pouches and the shotgun.
  • Combat moves, together with the legend level some of them need.
  • Stronghold projects, which are what unlock further upgrades in each territory.

The usual way to earn it is to scavenge piles, wreck convoys and finish the Clean Up Crew jobs at strongholds. That is the game working as designed; the editor is for when you would rather spend your evenings driving than farming.

See and set your scrap

The editor reads your save in your browser. The file is not uploaded anywhere, and nothing changes unless you download an edit.

  1. Close the game and Steam, and copy your save file (GameSave01.sav or the slot you play). The editor keeps no backups, and edits are at your own risk.
  2. Open the save in the editor and stay on the Max tab.
  3. Scrap shows what Max has to spend. Type a new amount.
  4. Download the save and put it back over the old file (see below).

The Statistics tab also lists Most scrap held, which is a record the game keeps and not Max’s balance, so you do not need to touch it.

Refill the scrap piles you have emptied

Scrap piles, water and food lie around the map and, once Max has taken from a place, it stays empty. The Wasteland tab lists them under Pickups, with how many you have taken. Refill puts a pile back, full, in the places Max has already visited. Refill all does it for every kind at once.

Use this if you want the scavenging, only with more places to scavenge. It changes nothing about the scrap Max already has.

A sensible amount

Enough for the next upgrade or two keeps the game paced the way it was designed. A huge number buys everything at once and ends the reason to explore, so pick the amount that makes your game fun.

This is for your own offline single-player game. Changing the amount changes how the game plays, and the editor does not make backups, so keep a copy of your original save.

Put the edited save back

Download the save, close the game and Steam, and copy the downloaded file over the original in your Steam user data folder (userdata/<your id>/234140/remote), keeping the same name. Steam Cloud may otherwise put its own copy back, so replace the file while Steam is closed, or turn Steam Cloud off for Mad Max first.
