A challenge won’t complete: see what is left and mark it done

Checked against Mad Max (2015) Patch 4 · November 3, 2026

Mad Max keeps 175 challenges, and the “Up to the Task” achievement wants all 144 of the ones that cannot be repeated. A few can no longer be finished the way the game intended: Clean Sweep, for instance, asks for 2,000 scrap from Clean Up Crews, and the Scrap Crew reward came from Warner Bros.’ online service, which has closed. The Challenges tab shows every challenge with its progress and can mark one done.

Why one challenge stays open

  • Clean Up Crews pay scrap by asking Warner Bros.’ online service when they last paid. With that service closed, a new game may never reach the Clean Sweep goal, and an old one can be stuck a few hundred scrap short.
  • Some challenges only appear after another is done (the editor shows “Appears after” for them), so a hidden one is not a bug.
  • A challenge that counts places or kills may have a goal the game works out later in the story.

This is also the usual reason a save sits at 143 of 144, with Up to the Task refusing to unlock.

Find the one you are missing

  1. Close the game and Steam, and copy your save file. The editor keeps no backups, and edits are at your own risk.
  2. Open the save in the editor and go to the Challenges tab.
  3. Up to the Task shows how many of the 144 non-repeating challenges are done. Under All challenges, set the status filter to Not done, or type a name into Search challenges.
  4. Read the progress: each row shows how far you are towards its goal. A row at 1,989 of 2,000 is one you can still finish yourself; one that cannot move is the one to mark done.

Mark it done

  1. Press Complete on the stuck challenge. For a single missing one, that is all you need.
  2. If you are far behind and want the whole list, Complete all marks every non-repeating challenge. It needs room in the save for the extra entries; the editor says so if there is not enough.
  3. Marked one by mistake? Reset sets it back.
  4. Download the save and put it back over the old file (see below).

Completing a challenge here adds to Challenges completed on the Statistics tab but gives no Griffa tokens, so set those on the Statistics tab if you want them. If the Up to the Task achievement does not appear when you load the save, complete any challenge in the game.

Repeatable challenges

Repeatable challenges start again after each completion and count how many times they were done. The editor shows Times done for them and lets you change it. The 144 that Up to the Task counts are the ones without the Repeatable tag.

This is for your own offline single-player game. It changes your save’s record, not the game’s code, and the editor does not make backups, so keep a copy of your original save.

Put the edited save back

Download the save, close the game and Steam, and copy the downloaded file over the original in your Steam user data folder (userdata/<your id>/234140/remote), keeping the same name. Steam Cloud may otherwise put its own copy back, so replace the file while Steam is closed, or turn Steam Cloud off for Mad Max first.
