Formula missing or a potion you cannot brew: see which formulas Geralt knows

Geralt brews only from formulas he carries, so a missed shop, a skipped quest or a chapter change can leave a favourite potion or oil off the list. The game never tells you which formulas you do not have. Your save records the ones in Geralt's inventory, and the editor shows all 37 of them: which he knows, what each asks for, and whether the ingredients in his bag are enough. It can learn the missing ones and set how many of each ingredient he carries.
Formula, diagram or ingredient?
Three different things can be missing, and the game puts them in different places.
- A formula teaches Geralt to brew a potion, oil or bomb. There are 37 in the game, and they are what the Alchemy tab lists.
- A crafting diagram lets a blacksmith make a weapon or armor piece. Diagrams are items, found under Crafting Diagrams in the Inventory tab, not in Alchemy.
- An ingredient is a plant or part that holds a substance. A formula asks for substances, and any ingredient that holds the substance will do.
See which formulas you know
The editor reads your save in your browser. The file is not uploaded anywhere, and nothing changes unless you download an edit.
- Close the game and copy your save file (.sav). The editor keeps no backups, and edits are at your own risk.
- Open the save in the editor and open the Alchemy tab.
- Known formulas lists what Geralt can brew now. Each shows what it needs in substances (Vitriol, Rebis, Aether, Caelum, Quebrith, Sol, Vermilion, Hydragenum or Fulgur) and how many he can brew from the bag.
- Formulas to learn lists the rest. If it is empty, Geralt knows every formula.
Any formula missing from Known formulas is not in his inventory, whatever the reason: not bought, not found, or lost to a chapter change.
Learn a missing formula
Press Learn next to a formula, or Learn all. The formula goes into Geralt’s inventory, as buying or finding it would. Forget takes it out again.
Learning a formula does not give him the ingredients. The row shows what he has in the bag and whether it is enough for one brew.
Set the ingredients
Further down, Ingredients lists every alchemy ingredient of the game by the substance it holds, with the number Geralt carries. Type a number to add or remove them. Use it when a brew is only a plant short.
Alchemy skills belong to the skill trees, not to the formulas: see wasted talent points if a skill is the problem.
This is for your own offline single-player game. We have not been able to check every formula in the game after learning it, so try a copy of your save first.
Put the edited save back
Download the save, close the game, and copy the downloaded .sav over the original in the gamesaves folder, keeping the same name. With Steam Cloud on, do it while Steam is closed too.
