Wizardry 8 Save Editor

Explore, repair and customize your party’s journey across Dominus: gold, names, attributes, skills, health, spell points, spells, equipment, each character’s own items and the shared party inventory.

Offline single-player only. This editor is for your own single-player saves. It runs entirely in your browser: the file never leaves your computer.

Where are my saves?

Windows
<game folder>\Saves\
macOS (Steam)
~/Library/Application Support/Steam/steamapps/common/Wizardry8/Wizardry 8.app/drive_c/Games/Wizardry 8/Saves/

Each save is one .SAV file, named as you named it in the game, in the Saves folder inside the game’s install folder. On a Mac, right-click Wizardry 8.app and choose Show Package Contents to get there. Close the game before you copy or replace the file.

With Steam Cloud on, Steam may put back its own copy of the save. Replace the file while Steam is closed, or turn Steam Cloud off for Wizardry 8 first.

Copy the .SAV file somewhere safe before editing. The editor doesn’t keep backups.

Questions

Where does Wizardry 8 keep its saves?

In the Saves folder of the game’s install folder, one .SAV file per save. In the Steam version on a Mac that is ~/Library/Application Support/Steam/steamapps/common/Wizardry8/Wizardry 8.app/drive_c/Games/Wizardry 8/Saves (right-click the app and choose Show Package Contents).

Is my save uploaded anywhere?

No. The file is read and written in your browser; nothing is sent to a server.

How do I put the edited save back?

Download it, then copy the downloaded .SAV over the one in the Saves folder, with the game closed. Keep the same file name. If Steam Cloud is on, do it while Steam is closed too.

Which versions are supported?

Saves from the current Steam and GOG releases (patch 1.2.4) and from the original release. Back up your save first: edits are at your own risk.

Can I edit recruited NPCs?

Not yet: the editor changes the six characters you created. Characters who joined the party along the way are kept as they are.
