Darkest Dungeon Save Editor

Explore, repair and customize your Hamlet: gold and heirlooms, heroes and recruits with their resolve levels, stress, equipment, skills and quirks, the trinkets in storage, the town’s buildings and events, each dungeon’s level, and the party on an expedition.

Offline single-player only. This editor is for your own single-player saves. It runs entirely in your browser: the files never leave your computer.

What you can do

  • Gold and heirlooms

Set gold, busts, portraits, deeds and crests, plus the shards, memories and blueprints of the DLC your campaign has.

  • Heroes and recruits

Rename heroes and the Stage Coach’s recruits, set their resolve level, stress, weapon and armour levels, clear an affliction or a virtue, bring a dead hero back from the Graveyard or take one out of a building.

  • Skills

Set the rank of each combat skill, learn camping skills and choose which four of each a hero takes along.

  • Quirks and diseases

Add or remove quirks, lock the good ones in place and cure diseases.

  • Trinkets

Add trinkets to storage, remove them, or take them off a hero.

  • The Hamlet

Set the upgrade level of every building: Stage Coach, Guild, Blacksmith, Abbey, Tavern, Sanitarium, Survivalist and Nomad Wagon.

  • Town events

Pick this week’s town event, such as a Town Fair, or set how often events happen.

  • Expeditions

In a save made in a dungeon, set the torchlight, the party’s health and the supplies in its bag.

  • Dungeons

Set each region’s experience, which decides the quest levels it offers.

Where are my saves?

Windows (Steam)
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\<id>\262060\remote\profile_0\
macOS (Steam)
~/Library/Application Support/Steam/userdata/<id>/262060/remote/profile_0/

Each campaign is a profile_N folder (profile_0 is the first slot). Choose the whole folder: the editor needs persist.game.json, persist.estate.json, persist.roster.json and persist.upgrades.json, and reads the town, town event, dungeon and expedition files when they are there. Leave the backup folder inside as it is. Close the game before you copy or replace the files.

The folder is the one Steam Cloud syncs. Replace the files with the game closed; Steam then uploads them the next time it syncs.

Copy the profile folder somewhere safe before editing. The editor doesn’t keep backups.

Guides

Questions

Where does Darkest Dungeon keep its saves?

In the Steam folder: Steam\userdata\<your id>\262060\remote\profile_N on Windows, and ~/Library/Application Support/Steam/userdata/<your id>/262060/remote/profile_N on a Mac. Each profile_N folder is one campaign.

Is my save uploaded anywhere?

No. The files are read and written in your browser; nothing is sent to a server.

How do I put the edited save back?

Download the edited files (only the ones that changed), then copy them into the same profile_N folder they came from, over the old ones, with the game closed. Keep the same file names and leave the backup folder alone. The game only lists save files it wrote itself, so a profile copied into an empty slot, or a file it had already removed, is ignored. To move a save to another slot, start a new game there first and then replace its files.

Can I edit a save made during an expedition?

Yes. Open the whole profile folder: the editor then shows the party’s torchlight and bag, and the heroes’ health along with everything else. The changes apply when you continue the expedition.

Why can’t I add Crimson Court trinkets?

The editor offers DLC trinkets, quirks and currencies only when the campaign includes that DLC. It never adds content you haven’t got.

Which versions are supported?

Saves of the current Steam release on Windows and Mac, with or without DLC. Back up your profile folder first: edits are at your own risk.
